Are there any foods you eat every day? If you answered yes, do you they give your body necessary nutrients, or just because you like them? If you’re like most people, you either eat them because you like them a lot, or because they are a convenient meal at a usually inconvenient time, like breakfast. Case and point the massive stockpile of breakfast burritos I use to keep stashed in my freezer that were tossed in the toaster oven every morning when I was in college.
But, for people who’re thinking about their fitness goals and/or focusing on their health, there are several foods that you should be consuming as much as possible. Doing this gives your body a boost and gives your weight loss goals or muscle building goals a better chance of finding you.
Spinach
This is one food you should be eating every day. Popeye knew his stuff! It is a rich tool for building lean muscle and it has been proven time and time again to be useful for preventing a wide range of health problems including strokes, cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis. It’s also used stimulate sexual health in men by increasing blood flow. You just need a cup of fresh spinach each day to see these results. Juice it, toss it in a salad, use it as a side dish, put it on a sandwich….. it goes with just about anything!
Yogurt
If you’re not eating a small amount of yogurt each day, you should be. The cultures in it have massive benefits for digestion. Probiotic organisms in yogurt also help to reinforce the healthy bacteria in your body. This helps to boost your body’s natural immune system, helping you to stay healthy. It can also help protect against cancer.
But yogurt can be misleading and confusing. Here are 3 tips to make sure you get the right kind and amounts.
- Look for those with labels that say “live and active cultures”.
- Look at the ingredients and make sure you don’t see “fructose, sugar, corn syrup, asulfulme potassium, asulfulme k, or aspartame” on the label.
- Yogurt IS NOT a breakfast. Eating it with breakfast is fine but other than the probiotics, yogurt does not contain all you need to start your day. Rather than using fruit to top your yogurt, top a bowl of fruit with ½ up of yogurt.
Tomatoes
Another great food for your arsenal is the tomato. Eat them often and eat them in a variety of ways. The deeper red they are, the better they are for you. They contain the antioxidant lycopene, which can help to reduce the risk of developing numerous health conditions including stomach cancers, prostate cancers, heart problems and skin conditions. Try to consume 1 a day.
Berries
Berries are one of the most important super foods today. Ounce for ounce, they rival just about any other food with regard to the number of antioxidants they contain. These antioxidants help to prevent against cancer, the slow the aging of your skin, and prevent the development of diabetes. They are rich in fiber and Vitamin A and C. You should try to eat a cup of fresh blueberries each day or ½ cup of dried or frozen varieties. Snacking on frozen berries is an incredible dessert choice.
Carrots
Most people know carrots are good for your eyes but they have many other benefits, too. They are also an excellent tool for fighting of cancers. They can help to reduce inflammatory conditions in the body and even help with arthritis pain. They also have a low caloric level. Try to consume about ½ cup each day for the best results. If you do not like carrots, consider sweet potatoes, yellow bell peppers or even butternut squash. Mango is a fruit alternative.
For many individuals, having healthy foods in their diet is not easy. For that reason, try to add as many of these foods to your diet each day. Doing so can boost your overall health and give your body the nutrients it needs to be healthy long term.
